My story

When I was just about to apply a gifted baby lotion to my newborn, I got hit by this instant headache when inhaled the strong scent of that product.

I then thought ” If this gives me such headache, how would my baby feel?”

It was my maternal instinct telling me something isn’t right here! So I started asking questions! I googled things like ”Why is baby lotions giving me a headache?”, and soon become aware that many ingredients in these baby products are endocrine disruptive and carcinogens, Ingredients that interfere with kids development. The particular brand that I held in my hands had gone through many lawsuits and had paid out billions, yet still selling their products on our shop shelves! I was gobsmacked- isn’t a product sold on our shop shelves supposed to be safe???

Going through many labels I soon realised that it is very daunting and time consuming. I then learned that I can simplify many things I use within my home. I also realised, that complicated DIY’s are not sustainable for me, because, you know, work, kids, house and partner they all take up your time! So in order to make it sustainable I needed to find simple, easy yet effective DIY’s.

My approach

Sustainable aka easy to make in order to be able and keep up with the DIY was my priority. Because I knew if I didn’t make it easy for myself the switch to non tox swaps will NEVER happen!

Once I realised how synthetic fragrance in air fresheners, fragrance and cleaning chemicals impact our health and the quality of our home environment I decided to ditch all of them!
Firstly, I started with Green cleaning! I took all my cleaning chemicals and packed them in a box, hid them behind the garage door ‘just in case ‘ if I needed them. I did the same with air fresheners, but with the personal fragrance it was harder to part. I received my DoTerra Top 10 essential oils kit, and diffusers. Replaced my air fresheners, used Lemon, On Guard, Tea tree and Oregano into my cleaning solutions and guess what? After a year, when we decluttered the garage, we found the box of chemicals, that not once I had to look for!

And the shift in our home environment was priceless, it really felt like a safe space!
